ABOUT

For as long as I can remember, I wanted to be a veterinarian! I have always loved animals and grew up with two mixed breed cats, my Jack Russel Vee (still the BEST dog ever), my long necked turtle Yurtle and Guinea Pig Leroy.

After studying my booty off I managed to get into veterinary school in New Zealand in the early 2000’s, graduating with a BVSc (similar to a DVM) and passing my American Exams. I practiced in two large, small animal practices in central Florida as well as practicing in Australia and the UK for an adventure before moving to North Carolina where I am working part time while caring for our very busy young family.

While a lot of my patients have been your standard cats and dogs, I have always had a real love of “pocket pets” and reptiles of all kinds (yes even snakes!). I especially love turtles, tortoises and terrapins and rabbits. Rabbits are so much more intelligent than people give them credit for – I think at least as smart as cats but many get relegated to the yard all by themselves when they are very social creatures.

So why did I create this website? I have noticed over the last ten years or so that many pet parents are looking for their answers on the internet rather than asking me, their vet with 8 years at University, thousands of hours in practice, and hundreds of hours of continuing education. Much of the information I see is incorrect and misguided – some of it is fabulous but it can be very hard to differentiate…

One area I am extremely passionate about is pet nutrition. I have worked with, and for pet nutrition companies and visited several manufacturing plants and nutrition research centers. I have also read countless articles and studies to develop my own opinions and knowledge outside of what many companies will try to tell you. I will endeavor to do my best to give you the most up to date information and recommendations.

I am currently living in North Carolina with my husband,  four beautiful, crazy, curious children, three dogs, two cats, 5 chickens and 2 rabbits (yes we are a bit of a zoo!). I will try to cover as many topics that crop up and get asked by pet owners but if there is an area you have question on, please use me contact me page to get in touch.
